He sang his debut role in 1991 at the age of 21 in a production of Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail at the Roodeport City Opera in Roodepoort . There he embodied the Belmonte. In 2006 he made his debut at the New York Metropolitan Opera as Mozart's Idomeneo .

Van Rensburg's repertoire focuses primarily on the musical style epoch of the Baroque .

Directorial work

At the Gärtnerplatztheater in Munich, Peer Boysen staged the pasticcio Ein Theater nach der Mode with van Rensburg, which includes works by other baroque composers in addition to Handel's music. In 2006 he made his directorial debut at the Halle ad Saale Opera House with Monteverdi's L'Orfeo , in which he also sang the title role. Handel's first oratorio Il trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno was performed in Passau in 2009 under van Rensburg's direction. His most recent directorial work is concerned with Handel's opera Ariodante , which was performed for the first time in February 2011 at the Cuvilliés Theater in Munich, and Mozart's opera Le Nozze di Figaro , which premiered in Mönchengladbach in October 2011. As in its production Il Pianto d'Orfeo van Rensburg joined in Ariodante the dance as a means of expression with the music. The dancer acts as the singer's alter ego and illustrates the feelings of the acting person.
