The region of Crete covers 8,336 square kilometers and is mainly formed by the Greek island of Crete and some smaller surrounding islands .
politics
The region forms one of the 13 regions (Ez. Periféria περιφέρεια) of Greece. The region is divided into four regional districts, which correspond to the areas of the prefectures until 2010. In proportion to their population, they send a certain number of MPs to the 51-member regional council.
