biography

Kristy McNichol was born in Los Angeles in September 1962. Her father James McNichol, a Scot, was a craftsman. Her mother, Carollyne McNichol Lucas, half Palestinian, was an actress and later Kristy's manager. She has two brothers: Jimmy and Thomas McNichol. Jimmy McNichol is also an actor. When she was three years old, her parents divorced. She was 19 when her mother married the German Siegfried Lucas. Together they adopted Kristy's sister, Jennifer Lucas, that same year.

At the age of six, McNichol shot various commercials and had her first television appearance in 1973 in the series Love, American Style . She gained international fame in 1976 through her role as "Buddy" Lawrence in the television series An American Family , which she played until 1980. At the same time, she also had some guest appearances on other successful series such as The Seven Million Dollar Woman , Starsky & Hutch and Love Boat . 1978 McNichol made her film debut in Nobody Is Perfect alongside Burt Reynolds .

In addition to acting, McNichol also devoted himself to music. She signed a record deal with RCA Records and recorded the album Kristy & Jimmy McNichol with her brother in 1978 . The single He's So Fine , a cover of The Chiffons hit from 1963, reached number 70 on the US Billboard charts .

She starred with Tatum O'Neal , Matt Dillon and Cynthia Nixon in the youth film Little Beasts (1980) and stood in front of the camera with Christopher Atkins in Pirate Movie (1982).

In 1982 McNichol took on the lead role in the film A Class Girl with Michael Ontkean . While filming in France, she suffered a nervous breakdown and then underwent psychotherapy. She later justified her breakdown with the constant work and the pressure that her mother put on her. In addition, the sole financial responsibility for her family had bothered her. After therapy, McNichol was able to continue filming A Class Girl and the film was released in 1984.

After this incident, the actress stepped a little bit shorter professionally. In 1988 McNichol was in the movie Two Moon Junction and in a guest role in the television series Murder is her hobby to see. In the same year she also took on one of the leading roles in the television series Harry's Nest alongside Richard Mulligan , but ended her engagement in 1992 due to renewed psychological problems.

This was followed by a few television films and two guest roles in the hit series Golden Girls , before McNichol finally retired from the film business in 1998. According to a report by TV broadcaster CBS on Where Are They Now , she then taught drama and drama at a private school in Los Angeles .
