The Kriti I is a ferry of the Greek ANEK Lines , which entered service in 1979 as New Suzuran ( Japanese ニ ュ ー す ず ら ん Nyū Suzuran ). It has been in service on the route from Piraeus to Heraklion since July 2014 .

history

The New Suzuran was built under hull number 828 in the Koyo Dockyard in Mihara and was launched on February 22, 1979. After its delivery to the Japanese shipping company Shin Nihonkai Ferry , the ship began ferry operations between Otaru and Tsuruga in May 1979 .

After seventeen years of service for Shin Nihonkai was New Suzuran sold in May 1996 to the Greek ANEK Lines and Kriti I renamed. After its transfer to Perama and a conversion for additional passenger capacity, the ship began service from Ancona via Igoumenitsa to Patras in June 1997 .

In the following years the Kriti I changed the route several times. Since June 2000 she has been in use between Ravenna and Catania, in 2001 she switched to the route from Piraeus to Heraklion, where she spent the next six years. Since October 2007, the ship has been sailing the larger route from Patras via Corfu and Igoumenitsa to Venice , before it was briefly laid up in Perama in June 2011 .

From September to October 2010, the Kriti I was in service for a short time between Piraeus and her home port of Chania , then she switched back to the route from Patras via Igoumenitsa to Venice. From December 2012 to May 2013 the ship was again in Perama, after further berthing times in Syros and Livorno , she returned to service in June 2013 under the charter of the Goinsardinia shipping company between Olbia , Livorno and Civitavecchia .

After she was in Perama again from September 2013 to July 2014 after the charter expired, the Kriti I switched to its current route from Piraeus to Heraklion. From March 2017 to November 2018, the ship was chartered to the Italian shipping company Grandi Navi Veloci .

The sister ship of the Kriti I is the Kriti II , which entered service in 1979 as the New Yukari and has also been in service for ANEK Lines since 1996.
