Career
In the Western Hockey League Bantam Draft 2005, the Vancouver Giants used their second right to vote to acquire the rights to Lance Bouma. In the 2005-06 season he played in the Rural Alberta Midget Hockey League for most of the season . As a 15-year-old, the Vancouver Giants brought him into the WHL and let him complete his first missions there. In five games he impressed with one goal and three assists. In the 2006/07 season he made the leap into the regular team of the Vancouver Giants. Bouma played in 49 regular season games and 22 play-off games. In the play-offs, the Giants failed only in the seventh final game at the Medicine Hat Tigers and missed winning the President's Cup . Nevertheless, the team qualified as the hosting team for the 2007 Memorial Cup and successfully took revenge on the Medicine Hat Tigers in the final. In the same year he also played for the Alberta team at the Canada Games 2007 , where he took part in the ice hockey tournament. Bouma scored two goals and the team finished the championship in fourth place.
In the 2007/08 season Bouma set a new career record with twelve goals and 35 points in 71 games this season. This led to his being selected in the third round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft in 78th place by the Calgary Flames . In the junior leagues he stayed for two more years and in the 2009/10 season he was team captain of the Vancouver Giants when the team made it to the third play-off round but had to admit defeat to the Tri-City Americans . Following the departure Bouma was in the AHL - farm team of the Calgary Flames to Abbotsford sent and completed five play-off games for the Abbotsford Heat . After a loss in the sixth game against Hamilton, the Heat was eliminated from the play-offs.
In the 2010/11 AHL season he rose to become a regular at the Abbotsford Heat. He had a good season and in the first 49 games he scored 11 times in the opposing goal. Bouma is best known for his physically strong game. These qualities earned him his first appointment to the Calgary Flames squad on February 3, 2011. Two nights later he made his debut for the Flames against the Los Angeles Kings . Bouma's first point came with an assist on February 7, when he put Mikael Backlund on for a goal against the Chicago Blackhawks .
After being out for almost the entire 2012/13 season due to a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament and collateral ligament in October 2012, he was back in the Flames' squad at the beginning of the 2013/14 season . He was a member of this until the end of the 2016/17 season before moving to the Chicago Blackhawks as a free agent in July 2017 . There he fulfilled a one-year contract, which was not extended in summer 2018. Bouma then moved to Europe for the first time when he joined Genève-Servette HC from the Swiss National League in August 2018 . In September 2018 he suffered a knee injury and was out until the end of the season.
In September 2019, he took part in the Los Angeles Kings training camp , but received no contract and was then hired by the Ontario Reign , their farm team.
