State Sportsman of the Year (Saxony)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The election for Saxony's Sportsman of the Year has been held since 1993. The election is organized by the Landessportbund Sachsen together with the sports editors of the Saxon media and the Saxon sports journalists' association. The winners are chosen from ten candidates per category in a public survey. The winners receive the “Saxon Sports Crown” made of Meissen porcelain , which is also awarded in six other categories; the handover takes place during the Saxon sports gala .

The Nordic combined athlete Eric Frenzel with six titles that he won in a row from 2014 to 2019 was chosen most frequently among the men . Overall, the most frequent winner was the tobogganist Sylke Otto , who was voted Saxon Sportswoman of the Year nine times in a row. The most successful team are the Leipzig handball players, who received the award four times as VfB Leipzig and HC Leipzig .
