State Sportsman of the Year (Thuringia)
The Thuringian Sportsman of the Year has been elected since 1991. It is organized by the Landessportbund Thuringia , the Thuringian Sports Aid Foundation and sports journalists. Until 1994, in addition to sports committees and members of the Thuringian Sports Journalists Club, newspaper readers also voted, after which there was no public participation until 2011. A public vote has been held again since 2012. A jury of experts nominates a pre-selection of eight athletes or teams for each category. The disabled athletes are appointed by a jury.
The Nordic combined athlete Ronny Ackermann , the racing cyclist Marcel Kittel and the two biathletes Sven Fischer and Frank Luck (3 times each) were most common among the men, the speed skater Gunda Niemann-Stirnemann and the track cyclist Kristina Vogel (6 times each) among the women. , André Lange's bobsleigh team (9 times) and athlete Birgit Pohl (5 times) among the disabled athletes .
