history

The place name Laucha was formed in connection with the name of the water as a derivation from the Old High German louh - leek . Laucha can thus be interpreted as a “place by the stream where leek grows”. The name of the settlement is secondary and has the first form of the name Lawcha . Laucha is mentioned in a document from Emperor Konrad II in 1039 .

At the beginning of the 13th century, Lords of Louchaha are mentioned, who probably first built a simple castle and later served as castle men in the neighboring Tennberg Castle near Waltershausen. Their reputation was bad because they were known as robber barons and chased away by the Thuringian landgrave . The place Laucha belonged at that time to the castle district and later the Tenneberg office . In 1401 the goods were sold to the Reinhardsbrunn monastery , the castle - which later became a palace - passed to the Lords of Teutleben. The residents of Laucha were mostly farmers, the place was conveniently located on a side branch of the Hohe Straße in the Gotha - Eisenach section .

Both the Thirty Years' War and the great fire in the village of 1719 brought great disaster. At the beginning of the 18th century, Friedrich von Hopffgarten , who acquired the estate in 1714, carried out further modifications. The resulting so-called Weiher-Schloss had an unusual design, based on the famous Toppler-Schlösschen in Rothenburg ob der Tauber . The massive stone ground floor over a rectangular floor plan had a Gothic gate and small slit-like windows. Above it rose a half-timbered storey with slug-glass windows , which cantilevered over the ground floor, giving the building a particularly romantic impression. Inside there was a Renaissance fireplace with rich decorations and the year 1589. The castle was uninhabited from the middle of the 19th century. Laucha belonged to the Hopffgarten court in the Duchy of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg or Saxe-Coburg and Gotha until the patrimonial courts were abolished in the middle of the 19th century .

In 1945, the castle park was largely cleared, and in 1947/48 the castle was demolished. Objections from monument preservationists were unsuccessful. The demolition was carried out on the basis of order 209 of the Soviet occupying power to remove aristocratic seats. A timber-framed farm building, the large pond and the re-grown park are still preserved. The park restaurant now stands on the site of the castle.

On March 18, 1994, Laucha was one of the seven founding communities of the Hörsel administrative community . By order of the Thuringian State Parliament on 16 November 2011, the administrative community Hörsel was dissolved on December 1, 2011, through a voluntary merger of ten previously independent municipalities Aspach , Ebenheim , Fröttstädt , Hörselgau , Laucha, Mechterstädt , Metebach , Teutleben , Trügleben and Weingarten the Rural community of Hörsel will be newly formed.

Buildings

  • The St. Kilians Church is located in the center of the village . The building was rebuilt from 1720 after the major fire of 1719 in a simple form as a baroque hall church . It contains only one gallery . Around 1888 the church received an organ from the workshop of the master Hugo Böhm from Gotha, which was restored in 2005 by Orgelbau Waltershausen . 1971–1973 the church was closed by the building authorities due to storm damage and should be removed from the list of historical monuments. It was, however, able to be restored with donations from 1992 and re-consecrated in 1994 as part of a village festival. Inside there is a pulpit altar and a baptismal font from 1722. The groin vault on the ground floor of the tower still reminds of the previous church . The church belongs to the Marienkirche in Mechterstädt and St. Michaelis 's Church in Teutleben the parish Mechterstädt.
  • A stone cross moved from the Riethmühle to the castle park is reminiscent of a murder case.
  • War memorial from the 1920s in front of the church for the 17 Laucha soldiers who fell in World War I, memorial plaque also for those who died in World War II.
  • In the park there is a memorial stone and the so-called Ulfen oak - these are intended to commemorate the fraternization of the men's choir associations of Laucha and Ulfen in 1990.
