The evangelical community center with the Laurentiuskirche was built between 1956 and 1958 according to a design by the architect Wilhelm Lehrercke. It is located deep in the 13,000 square meter plot highway  367 in Berlin district Wilhelmstadt of Spandau .

history

A deacon of the Melanchthon Church first held children's services and Bible studies in a barrack built by the unemployed from 1932 in the clubhouse of an allotment garden colony on Heerstraße . It was not until 1950 that the consistory allowed the deacon to conduct services on Sundays in the barrack church . In the summer of 1956 the foundation stone was laid for the community center, its inauguration on December 14, 1958. The barrack was then torn down because it was in disrepair . The campanile was not built until 1961. The community center includes a child day-care center that was built later and a rectory , which was rededicated in 2012. The congregation became independent on January 1, 1965 , and Laurentius of Rome was chosen as the patron saint . In 2002 the parishes of the Gnadenkirche and the Laurentiuskirche merged to form the new Evangelical Vineyard Church Community in Berlin-Spandau .

Building description

The simple building complex consists of flat-roofed , plastered masonry structures .

The church service room is almost twice as high as the other single-storey buildings and has high-lying windows on the long walls. Only in the area of ​​the altar are high windows with stained glass by Ruth Schranz on both sides . The church space can be designed variably and allows a wide range of uses. It can be expanded by opening a folding door and the pews are loosely placed.

The organ , installed in 1964, was created in the workshop of E. F. Walcker & Cie .

The altar cross comes from Reinhart Braun, the relief on the baptismal font made of chased copper, depicting the washing of the feet , was created by Waldemar Otto .

In the bell room of the Campanile hangs a cast steel bell that was cast in Morgenröthe-Rautenkranz by Schilling and Lattermann in 1926 . With a diameter of 108 cm and a height of 85 cm, it weighs 500 kg. Your strike note is a ', its inscription reads: "AND PEACE ON EARTH".

Originally there was a simple wooden cross above the entrance to the community center , created by Rudi H. Wagner. It has been hung on the back wall of the church hall, as in September 1972, the bell tower the evening illuminated cross on a perforated tower ball from aluminum was attached. The mosaic at the entrance with the seal of the Laurentius community comes from the same artist . The vine depicted there refers to former vineyards in this area, from which the name of the vineyard community is derived.
