Folk culture

Good Friday procession in Lauro (2009)
View of Lauro with the Castello Lancellotti

In Vallo di Lauro with its main town Lauro there is an impressive tradition of celebrating Holy Week . On Good Friday there is a large procession , at the end of which groups dressed in white (so-called Biancovestiti ) from the various surrounding towns recite ancient sacred chants in the Campanian dialect on the main square . Historically dressed people with the Arma Christi also take part in the procession , and in neighboring Taurano the Passion of Jesus is played as Sacra rappresentazione vivente . Based on these models , Lauretani immigrated to Germany founded and designed the Passion Play in Bensheim an der Bergstrasse.
