Le Mac - Double bangs better (in the French original Le Mac ) is a French comedy film from 2010 by the director Pascal Bourdiaux with José Garcia in a double role.

action

The successful pimp Ace is an informer and is supposed to help the police convict the ice-cold gang boss Tiago Mendès in a deal in Marseille. Ace already suspects Ace of cooperating with the authorities, and when Ace sees Tiago's methods of dealing with traitors, he is frightened and therefore fakes his death and leaves the police in the lurch.

Fortunately, shortly afterwards, he falls into the arms of his twin brother Gilbert Chapelle. Gilbert is a staid bank clerk who is also currently in conflict with the law because he accidentally shot someone. In order to obtain a reduction in sentence, he has to follow in the footsteps of his hitherto unknown brother. Since the shy and insecure Gilbert is the exact opposite of the criminal Ace, Chapelle's training to become a gangster, which has to take place within 36 hours, is only halfway successful. As a result, Gilbert initially endangers some actions, which in turn makes Mendès suspicious. However, Gilbert increasingly likes his role, as does Luna, Ace's favorite prostitute.

Over time, Gilbert manages to post increasing progress and success, which in turn helps him to regain Tiago's trust. The matter becomes difficult, however, when Ace shows up again during the final coup to run away with the money for the handover. However, he is stopped by his henchmen, his wicked mother (whom he lied about the amount of money) and Mendès' men. When Mendès arrives with Gilbert, there is a shootout in which all gangsters, including Mendès, lose their lives. The police find the shot Gilbert, who tells them, “He ran away with the money. He put us all on the cross. "

In the final scene it is revealed that the twin brothers have made common cause and fled to Miami with Ace's girls , where Gilbert manages to crack Mendès' account and transfer more money.

Reviews

“Sometimes director Pascal Bordiaux gets dangerously close to tastelessness and the region below the belt, but without really falling, the crude dialogues hit the mark too closely. And skilful slapstick scenes break any vulgarity. Even if some twists and turns are foreseeable - others surprise - and some excesses of violence do not fit into the humorous comedy of confusion, Carmen Maura alone, as a sly mother who can hardly be surpassed in absurdity, reconciles all film weaknesses. [...] This nonsense is a lot of fun. "

“The story is as unoriginal as the hero in his 70s outfit - the same decade, by the way, from which the dialogues could come. Conclusion: Silly crime clothes with worn jokes and an uninspired story. "

“With obvious pleasure in the content and formal quotation, almost all masculine film genres are mocked, especially gangster films and westerns. […] The story of a bank employee who has to impersonate his pimp brother on behalf of the police is completely irrelevant, but the confident direction and a well-behaved ensemble skilfully balance the trivial passages. Although Bourdiaux loses its creative drive on the home straight, funny entertainment is always provided until then. "

"Action-packed, confusion farce, which, despite good actors, makes hardly any narrative capital from its charming initial constellation and silts up between crude, crude gags and scenes sabotaged by bad timing."

Le Mac - Double bangs better fully fulfills its own claim to offer turbulent and amusing entertainment. The film doesn't achieve more, but it doesn't want any more. Following the series of taxi films initiated by Luc Besson (1998–2007), Bourdiaux 'work is another contribution to the light, mass-compatible comedy from France, which contradicts the cliché of the bulky French art film. Since Le Mac relies much more on slapstick than on puns, the film's humor is definitely exportable. "
