Leo Hermann Curt von Dobschütz (born June 19, 1862 in Grünberg , today's Zielona Góra ; † February 12, 1934 in Wiesbaden ) was a Prussian major general and from 1920 legal knight of the Order of St. John .

Life and family

Leo von Dobschütz was born in Grünberg in Silesia, today's Zielona Góra , in 1862 . He came from the noble family von Dobschütz and was the son of the lawyer and notary Hermann von Dobschütz, district judge in Grünberg, and Leontine Geißler.

He married on May 9, 1895 in Braunschweig Elisabeth Bartz (born June 13, 1872 in Magdeburg , † February 23, 1942 in Wiesbaden ), the daughter of Wilhelm Bartz and Clara Schönfeld.

Military background

Between April 1872 and April 1878 he attended the Friedrich Wilhelm School , a first-class secondary school in Grünberg. After graduating from the 11th grade (secondary) in 1878, he signed up for one year of voluntary military service. He then served as a non- commissioned officer in the Silesian Foot Artillery Regiment No. 6 .

After completing his high school diploma, he was promoted to portopée - ensign in October 1882 and received a high school diploma as an officer just under a year later, in August 1883. The promotion to captain à la suite of the Rhenish foot artillery regiment No. 8 followed in December 1895. At about the same time he was assistant director in the royal powder factory (" powder mill ") in Hanau-Wolfgang . From January 1904 until 1906 he worked as a sub-director of the artillery workshop in Gdansk , before he was promoted to major and appointed administrative director of the fireworks laboratory in Spandau .

In May 1914 he was first director of the artillery workshop in Lippstadt near Soest in North Rhine-Westphalia and towards the end of the same year director of the powder factory in Hanau. He held this position until 1918. In June 1915 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel. On September 20, 1915, a melting kettle containing trinitrotoluene (TNT) exploded in the Hanau powder factory , as a result of which six workers died, many more were injured and damage was also caused around the factory ( see newspaper report below ). In August 1917 he was appointed colonel and head of all technical institutes.

On August 12, 1919 Leo was of Dobschütz with the seniority of 8 August by awarding the character adopted as a major general. In September 1919 he enrolled as a student at the Albert Ludwig University in Freiburg im Breisgau .
