Leon Marvin Clarke (born February 10, 1985 in Wolverhampton ) is an English football player . The forward comes from the Wolverhampton Wanderers youth academy but left the club in 2007.

Athletic career

Wolverhampton Wanderers (until 2007)

As a schoolboy, Clarke played in the youth department of Wolverhampton Wanderers in his hometown, attended the club's academy and came on September 23, 2003 in the league cup against FC Darlington (2-0) for his first competitive appearance for the professional team. In the Premier League , however, he received no parole during that season. Instead, the diligent attacker was loaned to fourth division Kidderminster Harriers for two weeks in the spring of 2004 , where he played four times and played his first professional league game on March 27, 2004 against Lincoln City (1-1) as a substitute. After the relegation of the "Wolves" to the second-rate Football League Championship , Clarke was also represented more frequently in his home club in the 2004/05 season, starting twelve of 31 competitive games and scoring eight goals - one of which he succeeded in his home game debut in Molineux on October 11, 2004 against Preston North End (2-2).

Also during the 2005/06 season, Clarke played a number of games, but shot only one goal in 24 games. He had also benefited from injuries to competing strikers at the beginning of the season and was then loaned to two second division competitors after signing new attackers in the second half of the season. After just a week and one game for Queens Park Rangers , he helped out at Plymouth Argyle until the end of the season . After another six months in Wolverhampton as a supplementary player, the new coach Mick McCarthy announced in January 2007 that he wanted to “refresh” his offensive series and that Leon Clarke had suggested a club change for this purpose.

Sheffield Wednesday (2007-2010)

On January 15, 2007, Brian Laws, the new coach of Sheffield Wednesday announced the commitment of Leon Clarke until the end of the 2008/09 season. It was agreed not to disclose the transfer fee; According to the media, it was about 300,000 pounds. It didn't take long, however, that the newcomer, after not even being in the starting line-up, was loaned out to third division club Oldham Athletic , where he scored three goals in five league games. Shortly after his return to Hillsborough in April 2007, he scored on his first appearance from the start a goal to beat Cardiff City 2-1 .

At the end of August 2007, Clarke was loaned out one more time and stayed with Southend United in Football League One until the end of the year . There he had a good athletic run, scored in the first five league games into the opposing net and in the end had a good goal rate with eight goals in 16 championship matches. This did not qualify him for further tasks in Sheffield for the time being and so he was only once in the starting eleven in his remaining six season appearances. It was not until the 2008/09 season that he was a fixture in the game of the "Owls" again with 20 games from the start and was the best goalscorer of the past season behind fellow striker Marcus Tudgay .

Queens Park Rangers (2010-2011)

In June 2010, Clarke signed a new two-year contract with the Queens Park Rangers and moved to the club on a free transfer.
