Luke Anthony Freeman (born March 22, 1992 in Dartford ) is an English football player who has been under contract with Sheffield United since 2019 .

Career

In the club

Luke Freeman began his career at Charlton Athletic until he joined the youth division of Gillingham FC in 2003 at the age of eleven . He made his debut in the professional team of Gillingham on November 10, 2007 in the FA Cup against FC Barnet . At fifteen years and 233 days he was substituted on for Efe Sodje in the 80th minute . With his brief assignment, he broke two records. He became the youngest player ever to play for Gillingham FC and played in an FA Cup game, replacing Lee Holmes and Billy Hughes .

On January 30, 2008 he signed a contract with the top club Arsenal , but was signed for the youth team. On April 8, 2009 he got his professional contract with Arsenal. He scored his first goal for the reserve team on February 15, 2010 in a 2-1 win over Chelsea Reserve.

In July 2010 he was loaned to the team from Football League One Yeovil Town . The loan period lasted until December 2010. In his first league game he scored his first goal against Leyton Orient . After 13 league games and two goals, he returned prematurely to Arsenal in November 2010 due to an injury.

On November 17, 2011, Freeman was loaned to Stevenage FC until January 2012 , with the option of extending the loan deal. He made his debut two days later against Leyton Orient in a 0-0 draw. On December 26, he scored his first goal of the season against Colchester United (6-1). On January 8, he returned to Arsenal after nine league games and one goal for Stevenage. But two days later he moved to Stevenage FC for an unknown transfer fee and signed a four-year contract there. He played his first game after signing the contract in a 5-1 victory over AFC Rochdale . He scored the 1-0 lead and the interim 4-1 and was involved in the creation of two more goals. On January 24, he contributed three assists in the 4-2 home win over Milton Keynes Dons . And just four days later, Freeman kicked his team into the next round of the FA Cup with his 1-0 win against Notts County . On April 14, he scored twice in a 6-0 win over Yeovil Town .

In 2014 he moved to Bristol City , with whom he rose to the Football League Championship in 2015 . In January 2017 he was loaned to the Queens Park Rangers .

National team

In 2008 he completed his first U-16 international match in the Montaigu tournament and scored a goal against Japan in the group stage. England beat France 5-4 on penalties in the final. From 2008 to 2009 he played for the England U-17 national team. He was part of the English squad at the U-17 European Championship in Germany in 2009 , but was eliminated with the team in the preliminary round.
