Enda Stevens (born July 9, 1990 in Dublin ) is an Irish football player . He is currently under contract with the English first division club Sheffield United . He is preferred on the left side of defense, but can also act as a central defender .

Career

Beginnings in Ireland

After his youth at Cherry Orchard , Stevans signed his first professional contract with UC Dublin . There he could not prevail, however, and was released after one season and a total of only two missions. Then the new trainer of the St Patrick's Athletics , Jeff Kenna signed him . At the Saints , he quickly achieved the status of a regular player and completed 30 appearances for his team throughout the season. He also played with the team to qualify for the 2009/10 Europa League .

Due to the large number of inserts in the top Irish league , Stevens also aroused the interest of league competitors, so that he was poached in December 2009 by the Shamrock Rovers . At the Rovers , he quickly got stuck in the regular lineup. He crowned his first season with his new club by winning the Irish championship.

The 2011 season was just as successful for Stevens, who, in addition to winning the championship again, was also able to celebrate success in the Setanta Sports Cup . In the first participation in the main round of the Europa League in the history of the club in the 2011/12 season , he was also involved, as they failed in advance in the qualifying round for the Champions League . In November 2011 he was named “Young Player of the Year” by the Irish players' union PFAI.

Aston Villa

With his achievements in recent years, Stevens also attracted the attention of various Premier League representatives. Accordingly, a contract was negotiated with Aston Villa in the summer of 2011 that the actual change would not take place until January 2012, so that Stevens could continue to support the Rovers in participating in the Europa League. In January 2012, the move was officially completed, with Stevens signing a three-year contract. He made his Premier League debut in November 2012 against Sunderland after a few appearances in the reserve. During the 2013/14 season he stayed with the "Villans" completely without a job. Instead, he collected first at the third division Notts County and finally from the end of November 2013 until the end of the season at the second division and relegated Doncaster Rovers match experience .

National team

Stevens made his debut against Cyprus in February 2011 for his country's U-21 national team . He also took part in qualifying for the U-21 European Championship 2013 in Israel.
