Oliver James Norwood (born April 12, 1991 in Burnley ) is a Northern Irish football player who plays in the position of midfielder and is currently under contract with Brighton & Hove Albion .

Career

National team

In the early years of his youth, Oliver Norwood played for England's U-16s and U-17s. From the U-19 he was used for Northern Ireland.

During his junior years at the age of 19, he came on August 11, 2010. He made his first game for the senior national team . The following year he played against Wales for the first time over 90 minutes. In the last game of the 2010/11 European Championship qualification, he played his first competitive game against Italy. After that he was part of the Northern Irish squad in the following World Cup qualification and was used in 6 of the 10 games, 5 of them over the entire season. In the successful qualification for the 2016 European Football Championship in France, he was a regular player and played almost all games over the full 90 minutes. He was accepted into the squad of Northern Ireland and was part of the team from the start. In the second game, he took the free kick, which Gareth McAuley converted with a head for the first ever European Championship goal for Northern Ireland. He played all group games over the full playing time. After reaching the round of 16 against Wales, he was also there in the starting line-up, but was replaced towards the end of the game when the team fell behind. Northern Ireland failed to equalize and were eliminated.
