Les Challenges de la Marche Verte 2012

The 2nd Challenges de la Marche Verte took place from February 16 to 18, 2012 in the Moroccan Western Sahara and led through the nine provinces of Tiznit , Assa-Zag , Guelmim , Semara , Boujdour , Laâyoune , Tarfaya , Tan-Tan and Dakhla . The series of three cycling - day race was organized by the Royal Moroccan Cycling Federation (FRMC) in cooperation with the Cycling League of the Sahara was part of the UCI Africa Tour 2012 , where the individual races were classified in category 1.2, respectively. The three competitions together were 420 kilometers long. All races started in El Aaiún , where the last race ended. The Challenges de la Marche Verte were originally supposed to take place at the beginning of November 2011, but were moved to February 2012 at short notice, where they marked the start of the international African cycling year.

The field of participants consisted of twelve North African and European teams of six drivers each.

Grand Prix Sakia El Hamra

The first race of the Challenges de la Marche Verte was the Grand Prix Sakia El Hamra on February 16 and started in El Aaiún . After 170 kilometers, the riders reached the finish line in Boujdour .

Grand Prix Oued Eddahab

The second race of the Challenges de la Marche Verte was the Grand Prix Oued Eddahab on February 17th. The program included a 100-kilometer route between El Aaiún and Tarfaya in Morocco , which also led through the town of Tah .

Grand Prix Al Massira

The third and final race of the Challenges de la Marche Verte was the Grand Prix Al Massira on February 18th. The competition started in El Aaiún on the Foum El Ouad . After 140 kilometers, the drivers reached the destination, which was also in El Aaiún.

36 out of 58 drivers reached the finish.
