The 25th Tour du Maroc (German: Tour of Morocco ) took place from March 23rd to April 1st, 2012. The cycle race was held in ten stages over a distance of 1,550 kilometers and crossed around 500 municipalities and eight of the sixteen regions of Morocco ( Tanger-Tétouan , Taza-Al Hoceïma-Taounate , Fès-Boulemane , Meknès-Tafilalet , Souss-Massa-Draâ , Marrakech-Tensift-El Haouz , Doukala-Abda , Grand Casablanca ). It was part of the UCI Africa Tour 2012 and was classified in category 2.2 . The first eight drivers in the overall ranking and the first three of each stage as well as those wearing the yellow jersey of the overall leader received points for the Africa ranking list after each stage.

The overall winner of the stage race and winner of the points classification was the South African Reinardt Janse van Rensburg ( MTN Qhubeka ). He won with 39 seconds ahead of second placed Adil Jelloul from Morocco , who had finished second in the Tour d'Algérie a few weeks earlier , and the Bulgarian Ivailo Gabrovski from the Konya Torku Şeker Spor-Vivelo team .

Attendees

At the start were national teams from Africa, but also African and European continental teams and amateur teams . Teams from Paraguay or Japan were even invited. Originally the German Continental Team Specialized Concept Store and the German amateur team Team Roadsign were also supposed to take part. However, both were unloaded a few days before the start of the tour because there were too few places in the hotels for all drivers and attendants.
