The Liberal Party of Gibraltar is a liberal party in Gibraltar . Like its member organizations, it advocates Gibraltar's right to self-determination . Party chairman has been Joseph Garcia since 1992 .

history

The party was founded in 1991 as the National Party of Gibraltar and renamed the Liberal Party of Gibraltar in 1999. In the parliamentary elections in 1992, the party ran for the first time, but could not win a seat. After the party remained unsuccessful in the parliamentary elections in 1996, Joseph Garcia was elected to the Gibraltar House of Assembly in a by-election in 1999 . Since 2000, the Liberal Party has formed an alliance with the Gibraltar Socialist Labor Party (GSLP) in elections . This earned her two seats each in the 2000 and 2003 parliamentary elections. In the parliamentary elections in 2007 she was able to improve to three seats, which she also achieved in 2011. Since the GSLP improved from four to seven seats, the alliance was able to form the government with eleven out of seventeen seats. The Liberal Party of Gibraltar also achieved 3 seats in the 2015 elections and forms the government with the GSLP. Together the coalition has 10 seats.
