    The Gibraltar Parliament is the legislature of the British overseas territory .

    history

    Between 1969 and 2006 the parliament was known as the Gibraltar House of Assembly , since then as the Gibraltar Parliament . Parliament's job is to pass laws. In the unicameral parliament there are 17 elected MPs and a spokesperson - elected by a simple majority of the MPs. The structure and name of Parliament were redesigned with the 2006 Constitution.

    Parliament building

    The House of Parliament, built in 1817, is located on Main Street and John Machintosh Square . On August 28, 1969, the building was opened as a parliament building by Governor Admiral Varyl Begg .
