Lina Cheryazova ( Russian Лина Анатольевна Черязова / Lina Anatoljewna Tscherjasowa ; born  November 1, 1968 in Tashkent , Uzbek SSR , Soviet Union ; †  March 23, 2019 in Novosibirsk , Russia ) was an Uzbek freestyle skier of Russian descent. She started in the aerials (jumping) discipline.

Career

The parents of Lina Cherjasowa, Anatoly and Svetlana Tscherjasow were 1966 volunteers of the Komsomol from Novosibirsk came to Tashkent to rebuild the city after the devastating earthquake cooperate.

Cheryazova made her debut in the World Cup at the beginning of the 1989/90 season and she achieved ninth place in Tignes . This was followed by the seventh and fourth places in the season and thus reached 11th place in the Aerials World Cup. In the following season she got her first podium places in the World Cup with second place in Mont Gabriel and in Skole and with third place at Pyhätunturi . At the peak of the season, the 1991 Freestyle Skiing World Championships in Lake Placid , she was tenth. She finished the season in tenth place in the Aerials World Cup. After finishing second in Zermatt and fourth in Piancavallo at the beginning of the 1991/92 season, she won her first World Cup victory in Oberjoch . In the demonstration competitions of the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville , she came in fifth place. At the end of the season, like last year, she finished tenth in the Aerials World Cup. In the 1992/93 season she came on the podium at all Aerials World Cups. She won six World Cups and also took second and third place once. At the season highlight, the Freestyle Skiing World Championships in 1993 in Altenmarkt im Pongau , she won the gold medal. At the end of the season, she finished seventh in the overall World Cup and first in the Aerials World Cup. She was able to repeat strong performances in the following season. She again won six World Cups and took second and third place twice. At the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer , she became the first Uzbek Olympic champion at the Winter Games. As in the previous year, she finished the season in seventh place in the overall World Cup and in first place in the Aerials World Cup. During the preparation for the 1994/95 season, she broke her skull in an accident and was in a coma. She completed her first World Cup after this accident at the beginning of the 1995/96 season in Tignes, which she finished in 16th place. In the following years she was unable to repeat her strong performances from previous years. After the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano , where she finished 13th, she ended her career.
