Lisa Edelstein (born May 21, 1967 in Boston , Massachusetts ) is an American actress . She was best known for her role as hospital director Dr. Lisa Cuddy in the US series Dr. House .

life and career

Edelstein is the daughter of the Jewish couple Alvin and Bonnie Edelstein. She grew up in Boston, Massachusetts and studied theater at New York University . Her career as an actress began during her studies. Her first film role was in Oliver Stone's The Doors (1991). After many productions, including on Broadway , she wrote and played in the musical Positive Me at Ellen Stuart's La Mama, in Manhattan. Positive Me was one of the first musicals that dealt with AIDS .

Edelstein gained her first experience on television as the presenter of the show Awake on the Wild Side . She then played a wide variety of roles in various television series. Some examples of this are a noble prostitute in The West Wing , a transsexual in Ally McBeal , a sex-obsessed artist in Frasier, and a Jewish Orthodox woman who is losing her family in Family Law . She also appeared in the sitcom Seinfeld . Furthermore, she played in Practice - The Lawyers, the friend of James Spader . From 2004 to 2011 she played the Dr. Lisa Cuddy in the hit series Dr. House , who she left after the seventh season.
