On January 1, 1963, territorial military commands were introduced in Austria . Each of the nine Austrian federal states represents an area of ​​command. The nine military commanders are led by officers with the rank of general (1980–2002: division general ; since 2002 brigadier ). Officers must have held the rank of colonel for at least three years prior to being promoted to brigadier . Command management is currently limited to five years.
