List of generals and admirals in the Bundeswehr

The generals and admirals of the Bundeswehr form the top of their rank group and thus that of the generals . Since the Bundeswehr was founded in 1955, 51 officers have achieved the rank of general or admiral , of which three are currently still active.

There are various posts in the hierarchy of the Bundeswehr that are regularly filled by a general or admiral. In the Bundeswehr itself this is the Inspector General of the Bundeswehr and in the integrated structures of NATO - if manned by a German - this is the Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe (DSACEUR), the Chief of Staff at Allied Headquarters Europe ( SHAPE ), the Commander in Chief Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum , and the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee.
