Greifenstein Castle as a whole |
location |
Greifenstein Castle is recorded both as an overall complex and as a cultural monument. The entire complex extends over the core castle, the outer castle, the outer Bering and the latter protective moat, which is partially preserved in its profile, but at least as an undeveloped open space. The entire system thus includes undeveloped areas and also the buildings that were erected in the area of the outer bailey during the decline of the weir system. The term cultural monument once again covers those parts of the castle that can be specified in terms of their form and function. |

At the north-east corner of the main castle, the new building was built in 1687-93, a hall building by Count Wilhelm-Moritz von Solms-Greifenstein. The inner castle is surrounded by the inner bering with several corner towers and two bulwarks at the northern corners. Dianaburg hunting lodge | In the Bissenberg location hall: 8, parcel: 1 |
Tower construction built in basalt stone with a square floor plan with rounded corners, windows and portal walls in stone. The top floor of the tower with four graceful corner towers protrudes over an arched frieze and is covered by a steep hipped roof. The princely Solms-Braunfels coat of arms above the ogival portal on the south side. The tower is located east of Ulm on the basalt knoll of the 412 m high Kesselberg. Since the end of the 18th century hunting lodgings for the counts and later princes of Solms-Braunfels were located here. In 1842/43, Prince Ferdinand had the romanticizing tower, based on medieval models, and two other buildings built. After Prince Ferdinand's death in 1873, the buildings erected for hunting were initially used as accommodation for the forest families and later also as a restaurant. The outbuildings of the tower were demolished in 1969, the tower itself is a cultural monument. |
