Factory owner's villa (No. 2), administration building, factory (No. 4) and water-technical system (mill ditch, water house and water bridge to the factory) of a spinning mill property | At the Alte Post 2; 4th | from 1838 | One of the first industrial mills in the Ore Mountains, regional significance in terms of architectural, local and technological history.
The Höffer factory was the largest surviving spinning mill in Saxony, it was built in 1838/39 by the mill builder Christian Friedrich Uhlig for Carl Ferdinand Höffer, served for the manufacture of yarn and later developed into a highly specialized textile company, inscription on the gable side: "Carl Ferdinand Höffer / Cotton Spinning and Dyeing ”, the mighty building has a high, hipped mansard roof, lengthways on both sides with long dormers for ventilation and lighting of two attic storeys that rest on the five full storeys. The property is crowned by a central clock tower (in it remains of the clock mechanism) as a roof turret, with a bell chamber and Welscher hood. All of these formal elements are borrowed from the palace architecture and express the self-confidence and self-image of the builder. The preserved water system (Geyersbach and others) and a quarry stone railway bridge with industrial track that leads directly to the building belong to the industrial mill. The administration building from 1907, with a wide structure, is kept in the reform style and still has an intact wall-opening ratio, ground floor in red brick, beautiful steamed door leaves of the arched openings, upper floor plastered, there original windows with small protrusions, flat hipped roof, then three vents and an old lightning rod; The villa from 1910 also shows reform style, a mansard roof, porphyry walls, rich interior fittings: colored glass windows, sophisticated ceiling paintings, stairs and other things. The ensemble, very typical of the cultural landscape of the Ore Mountains, impressively and widely shaped the valley, building, industrial and landscape-defining significance, exemplary value as the former largest preserved spinning mill in Saxony (demolished in autumn 2017). |
