1719-1726 Baroque central building, visible from afar, west of the village, designed by the Dresden master builders George Bähr and Johann Gottfried Fehre, artistic value, importance for the local history and the townscape

Central building visible from afar to the west of the village, built by George Bähr and Johann Gottfried Fehre in 1719–1726, the painting by Johann Christian Bucaeus. The interior was redesigned in 1887 during the restoration from 1964–1968. The floor plan in the form of a Greek cross with short arms on the east side extended in the form of a segment arch in order to gain the necessary space for the organ. The restrained exterior of the plastered building with high segmented arched windows and a characteristic cross roof, on top of it a tower-like roof turret with a curved hood (cf. parish church of Schmiedeberg, Weißeritzkreis).
The bright interior with flat roofs, the high-quality colored painting of the parapets and the box stalls as well as the light red and yellow coloring of the window glass give the room a warm basic tone. The two-storey, almost all-round galleries separate an octagonal interior, which is extended towards the altar area, with a two-storey patronage lodge with a triangular gable glazed in the west. The furnishings are uniform from the time of construction, in accordance with the Protestant requirements for a church room with a central pulpit altar, above the organ, in front of it the baptismal font. Baroque pulpit altar with simple pilaster structure and blown segmental arch gable (the halo is now attached to the ceiling). The wide niche behind the wooden wall formerly illuminated by an east window, two doors to the side of the altar.

  • In terms of design, the organ on the gallery behind it, richly decorated with acanthus and surrounded by painted drapery, by Gottfried Silbermann, 1724–1726.
  • A sandstone baptism, the heads of angels on the cup, the foot with acanthus tendrils, 1725, the tin basin from 1741.
  • Large crucifix of good quality, 17th century
  • Bornkinnl, 18th century
  • A high-quality carved altar from the Freiberg school, from the 15th century. In the middle shrine Maria between the hl. Laurentius (the sword not original) and Nikolaus. In the wings the representation of St. Helena, Barbara, Petrus and Jakobus d. A. as well as Matthäus, Urban, Wolfgang and a Pope.
  • Silbermann organ : two-manual, consecrated in 1726, renewals in 1784, 1843, 1869, 1882. Normal tuning established in 1936 by repositioning the action.

from 1818 (lime works) completely preserved historical technical facility of the Lengefeld lime works, of supraregional technical historical importance.

The Lengefeld lime works , a museum since 1986, is the best known and most important historical facility for the extraction and processing of lime in the Ore Mountains. Due to its completeness, it is of supraregional importance in the history of technology. Lime has been extracted here in the opencast mine since the 16th century, and since 1925 also by underground mining. The structural evidence that has been preserved date from the beginning of the 19th century to the 1970s. Four lime kilns are optically and positionally central: the Rumford kiln I for white lime from 1818, with a polygonal floor plan and quarry stone masonry, also the Rumford kiln II for fertilized lime from 1822, with attached round, tapering chimney, the Rumford kiln III from 1835 for white lime, with a round, tapered brick oven that was subsequently added, the Hilke furnace (number IV), which worked on a coal basis, with an approximately square housing made of rubble masonry from 1873/74, with a hipped roof and shingle covering, also with a brick oven from the building period.
The ovens are connected by buildings that consist of both exposed framework and mixed masonry: washrooms, whitewashes and blackwashes from 1827 (interior wall lockers around 1900), depot and lime mill with ball mill and crusher (1935–1937). Two southern pillars are the remains of a conveyor bridge to another, no longer existing furnace.
To the north of the ovens are the remains of a loading ramp. Shaft II (1900–1904) with suspended bench, underground system, driving areas, rotary luffers and conveyor baskets, two interconnected buildings made of quarry stone, with brickwork or boarded timber frame construction in the upper area.

Lengefeld

image designation location Dating description ID
Dam wall of a dam (in the districts of Reifland and Lengefeld), with three exposed gate valves (on the water side), gate valve house, overflow channel and stilling basin, as well as a caretaker's house (An der Talsperre 2, OT Reifland) (Map) 1929-1933 Remarkable architectural and hydraulic engineering overall system, significant both in terms of design and technical history, connection of quarry stone and exposed concrete in the appearance of the dam wall, extraordinarily expressive effect of the heavily embossed masonry, asymmetrical disposition of the system, favored by the secluded landscape situation, monument protection also applies to the existing historical technology.

The Saidenbach dam, which was built to supply the city of Chemnitz with drinking water, holds 24.16 million cubic meters and is the largest dam in Saxony to date. It was only exceeded in size by the Pöhl dam, which was put into operation in 1964. A secondary purpose of the dam construction, which was solidly built in quarry stone, was to combat unemployment during the global economic crisis. The gently curved gravity dam is 334 m long and 48.05 m high, so the structure has a steep proportion. The Saidenbach dam was not previously a listed building. In the course of the renovation carried out in recent years, the appearance in the area of the wall crown was changed. Despite this impairment, there is no doubt about the monument value of the complex.
Barrier structure : Quarry stone masonry made of gneiss, exceptionally heavily embossed on the air side, in this respect only comparable to the Klingenberg Dam, also made of gneiss and completed in 1914, an exposed concrete wall serves as the parapet of the barrier structure on the air side, a metal railing on the water side, high water drainage over the top of the wall, however not in the middle, but in an arrangement shifted to the north, therefore clearly accentuated asymmetry of the appearance, the flood overflow is divided into eight fields, between which narrow wall sections protrude, they support a concrete bridge that bridges the overflow during the recent renovation the load-bearing wall sections were reduced, the crowning concrete parapet raised, the water-side railing replaced by a new one, the cover plates made of polished stone on the concrete parapet must also be rated as impairment.
Overflow canal: Under the flood overflow , the drainage channel plunges down the slope, sturdy protruding stone blocks are embedded in the lined floor of the canal bed, which act as water breakers here.
Schieberhaus : the compact, flat-roofed structure between protruding flank walls stands free in front of the dam, a high ribbon of windows spans the entire front, glazing probably original, three side entrance doors also original. Keeper's house: two-storey plastered building above the north end of the wall, slated, expanded hipped roof, already partially renovated, windows renewed.
Two wooden sheds at the northern and southern ends of the dam were used to operate the cable crane used to build the wall.

The second pond was dammed and provided with an outlet, which served as a mill ditch. Originally, a mill wheel was apparently operated to generate electricity, which is no longer preserved. A wooden arbor in good original condition stands above the former wheel chamber. A concrete arch bridge with the same railing also leads to this pond. Below the villa near the flight of stairs, a water basin with a vase (also concrete) and the remains of a lamp pole have been preserved. Also below the villa is a second, presumably grotto-like, second water basin that is now overgrown by ivy. In the park-like garden, parts of the old routing and the original planting have been preserved. The single or double rows of trees that accompany the trail are still easy to read today.

around 1850, older in essence Plastered construction in an urban-relevant location on the market, classicistic design language, fencing of rare railings made of branch concrete, significance in terms of building history and urban planning.

Three-storey residential and commercial building, built around 1850 using an existing cellar, in a semi-open, exposed corner building on Lengefelder Markt. The massive plastered building with a characteristically deep structure is closed off by a moderately inclined, one-sided hipped gable roof. The facade facing the market shows 11 axes, the three middle ones emerge like risks. The window openings are symmetrical. They have the shape of a round arch on the ground floor and a straight lintel on the upper floor. They are framed by profiled natural stone walls with horizontal, gable and segment-arched roofs. The facades facing the market and Reifländer Straße are balanced by cornices, pilasters and corner blocks. The ground floor with plaster imitating stone. A strongly profiled ledge marks the eaves. The dormers are new buildings. The interior was changed through various modifications.
The staircase with a two-flight staircase (change of direction in opposite directions) in a typical classicist design with one-hip basket arches (gooseneck) and square pillars (the upper end as a wooden construction) is remarkable.
The building was owned by Carl Luckner at the end of the 19th century. He ran a bar iron, I-beam, oven, tool and haberdashery store. Production and storage rooms were located in the former outbuildings.
The building documents the architectural development of the city of Lengefeld in the 19th century, and its importance in terms of building history and the character of the square is evident. A curiosity is the rear terrace railing made of branch concrete, which shows the building material as a surrogate material for wood. This otherwise very rare fact that is interesting in terms of art history can be found in the surrounding communities with a few examples, mainly on gazebos.

Dam, consisting of the barrier wall (weight dam), the stilling basin and two rifle houses at the foot of the dam Neunzehnhainer Strasse
(map)
re. 1905–1908 (Neunzehnhain II dam) Handed down in good original condition, significance in terms of technology history and landscape design, part of one of the oldest drinking water systems in Saxony.

Barrier wall: The dam wall is a gravity dam made of quarry stone masonry with a curved axis of the so-called Intze type. It is used to provide drinking water in a network with the Neunzehnhain I dam below. It was built between 1911 and 1914 according to plans by the Chemnitz City Building Office (Stadtbaurat Hechler). Commissioning took place in 1914. The height of the dam above the foundation base is 39.30 m, the height above the valley floor 33 m, the crown length 280 m and the crown width 4.50 m. Due to the favorable subsoil conditions, no special sealing of the barrier foundation was necessary. The subsurface was only sealed with a stamped concrete layer on which the wall was placed. The wall consists of rubble stones made of mica slate, which were laid in a mortar made of cement, trass lime and sand. On the water side, a seal made of a 3 cm thick cement plaster and a double seal coat of goudron was applied. In the upper area of the dam, the seal was made by a 70 cm thick protective concrete jacket coated with inert paint. On the water side, the bottom was sealed with a clay wedge (Intze wedge). The dam wall has neither a drainage system nor an inspection corridor.
In contrast to Neunzehnhain I, however, it has two small foothills at the inlet.
Stilling basin and valve house: The stilling pool is located at the foot of the barrier wall, flanked by two valve houses made of quarry stone. The walls of both houses are listed as layered masonry. Their floor plan is rectangular, they are closed by saddle roofs made of quarry stone. On the gable sides there are round-arched, double-winged iron gates from the time of construction.

The location below the church suggests that this small building could be a former church or village school. The building impresses with its very good original condition, which makes it a testimony to the building trade from the time it was built. School (with equipment) and attached gym as well as school yard Schulstrasse 9
(map)
1939 Plastered building with roof turrets, in the local style, closed preserved complex of great architectural and local historical importance.

School with gym, built in 1939 based on designs by the architect Curt, who mainly worked in the Chemnitz area. Originally a three-wing complex, expanded in 1976/78 to a four-wing complex with an open courtyard. The gym was added to the southeast. The two-storey building parts of the school, which are arranged around the courtyard, are closed off by steep gable roofs with slings. The entrance building is crowned by a slender roof turret. In terms of design, the building complex combines stylistic elements from the 1930s with the “Heimatstil”. The otherwise simple plastered façades with regularly arranged rectangular windows are emphasized by the main entrance with a round arched door portal and the side entrance with a porch supported by Doric columns with a triangular gable. The stairwell and the corridors inside look matter-of-fact and reservedly classy.
The decorative painting with forest plants, trees and bushes is remarkable. In the list of monuments of the Free State of Saxony, there are only 14 schools that were built in the same period. A comparison with these shows that the Lengefeld School is one of the most important schools in Saxony, which were built between 1933 and 1945. The authenticity of the building is also remarkable. The monument value results from the architectural, architectural and local historical importance.

(map)
1929-1933 Remarkable architectural and hydraulic engineering overall system, significant both in terms of design and technical history, connection of quarry stone and exposed concrete in the appearance of the dam wall, extraordinarily expressive effect of the heavily embossed masonry, asymmetrical disposition of the system, favored by the secluded landscape situation, monument protection also applies to the existing historical technology.

Barrier structure: Quarry stone masonry made of gneiss, exceptionally heavily embossed on the air side, in this respect only comparable to the Klingenberg Dam, also made of gneiss and completed in 1914, an exposed concrete wall serves as the parapet of the barrier structure on the air side, a metal railing on the water side, high water drainage over the top of the wall, however not in the middle, but in an arrangement shifted to the north, therefore clearly accentuated asymmetry of the appearance, the flood overflow is divided into eight fields, between which narrow wall sections protrude, they support a concrete bridge that bridges the overflow during the recent renovation the load-bearing wall sections were reduced, the crowning concrete parapet raised, the water-side railing replaced by a new one, the cover plates made of polished stone on the concrete parapet must also be rated as impairment.
Overflow canal: Under the flood overflow, the drainage channel plunges down the slope, sturdy protruding stone blocks are embedded in the lined floor of the canal bed, which act as water breakers.
Schieberhaus: the compact, flat-roofed structure between protruding flank walls stands free in front of the dam, a high ribbon of windows spans the entire front, glazing probably original, three side entrance doors also original.
Keeper's house: two-storey plastered building above the north end of the wall, slated, expanded hipped roof, already partially renovated, windows renewed.
Two wooden sheds at the northern and southern ends of the dam were used to operate the cable crane used to build the wall.

Post mileage
Post mileage Lippersdorfer Strasse
(map)
re. 1723 (post mileage column) Full-mile column, significance in terms of traffic history.

The all-mile column number 12 is at its original location on Poststrasse Silberwagenweg Annaberg - Freiberg is just before the entrance to OT Reifland. It is made of sandstone and bears the monogram "AR" and the post horn mark on both. The year 1723 occurs only once. In 1930 the column was restored, only the lower half of the writing was reused. The tip and upper part of the shaft have been renewed. 1967 Renewed restoration by master sculptor Cicci (Annaberg) and insertion of an intermediate piece as well as renewal of the base made of Hennersdorf sandstone. 1970 Installation of the column on a concrete foundation. In 1722, the Electorate of Saxony began to erect the Saxon post-mile pillars. Elector Friedrich August I wanted to build a modern traffic and transport control system in the electorate in order to promote trade and economy. He entrusted Magister Adam Friedrich Zürner (1679 - 1742) with the implementation. The system of post mile pillars comprised distance pillars, quarter milestones, half and full mile pillars. The distance columns should be set up in the cities in front of the city gates, later only on the marketplaces. Quarter milestones, half and full mile pillars were set up along the Poststrasse. They received a consecutive numbering (row number), starting from the beginning of the measurement. The all-mile columns were set up outside the cities on the post roads at a distance of 1 mile (= 9.062 km). The distance pillars were marked with the monogram "AR" for "Augustus Rex", the Electoral Saxon and Polish-Lithuanian double coat of arms and the Polish royal crown. The full mile, half mile columns and quarter milestones were all similarly labeled, none of them had a coat of arms, but the monogram "AR". The distances were given in hours (1 hour = ½ post mile = 4.531 km). This mile system was the first European traffic management system. The pillar considered here is of great importance in the history of traffic as part of the nationally significant postal system.

Road bridge over the Flöha (Map) re. 1886 Two-bay quarry stone bridge on a central flow pillar, of technical historical importance.

Two-bay quarry stone bridge over the Flöha, built in 1886 presumably to cross the works railway between the Herders paper mill (later Günther & Richter) and the Cameroon grinding shop. The client was Wilhelm von Herder auf Rauenstein and director F. Haubold. According to the inscription on the building, the builder was C. Schröder. The bridge spans the Flöha with two flat segment arches and rests almost in the middle on a flow pillar. Downriver and upriver, stone inscription panels were placed with the names of the builder and builder. The bridge remained original without any noticeable structural changes. It documents the state of the art at the time of its creation, at the same time it is a testimony to the industrial history of this region. The monument value results from the technical and regional historical significance of the bridge structure.

Water tower Am Wasserturm 20 (opposite)
(map)
around 1930 Round reinforced concrete structure on eight pillars, significance in terms of technology and local history.

The water tower was built around 1930 to supply water to the nearby manor. It is a simple, approximately 10 meter high functional building made of reinforced concrete. Eight narrow supports support a round elevated tank, which was originally surrounded by wooden paneling, as can be seen from architectural drawings and as can be seen from the slightly protruding supports at the foot of the water tank. This cladding, like the conical roof, has not been preserved. A rectangular shaft is set in the middle between the supports, which accommodates the inlet and outlet pipes of the container.
As an early example of a pure, unadorned reinforced concrete water tower, the Wernsdorfer water tower is of technical significance. At the same time, as a testimony to the development of the water supply in Wernsdorf, it has local historical value.

(map)
1905–1908 (Neunzehnhain I dam) Technical-historical and scientific as well as landscape-shaping significance, part of the drinking water network "Central Ore Mountains", which is one of the earliest of its kind in Saxony.

The dam was built from 1905 to 1908 according to plans by the Chemnitz City Building Authority (Stadtbaurat Hechler). It is similar in its execution and design to the dam of Neunzehnhain II.
Barrier structure: gravity dam made of quarry stone with a curved axis, dam of the Intze type (sealing on the water side at the bottom of the dam with a clay wedge), height 25 m above the foundation, volume of 19,400 cubic meters, radius of curvature from 200 m. The wall made of quarry stone is designed in a simple and purpose-oriented manner, but thanks to the type of design and the choice of local building materials it fits harmoniously into the landscape. The parapet was built with quarry stones (layered masonry), which are interrupted by square quarry stone plinths with arched crowning, below the wall on the air side are two rifle houses made of quarry stone, which are also listed as part of the original system, superstructure of the entry shaft: tower-like quarry stone building with Conical roof, stands directly next to the reservoir and enriches the landscape as a small "observation tower", was originally covered with tiles, which were replaced by slate, a small balcony resting on strong corbels forms a viewing platform from which the reservoir can be seen. The
level house: is located at the inlet of the dam, small quarry stone building on a square floor plan with a hipped roof
Feeder ditch: framed by quarry stones, is functionally related to the water level house, preserved in good original condition
