Residential house with enclosure Bergstrasse 1
(map)
1919 Villa-like building in idiosyncratic shapes, influenced by the contemporary reform style, significance in terms of building history and local development.

Villa-like house from 1920 by the chair manufacturer Krönert, in the design of the architect Kunz (originator of buildings in the "borderland style" such as the Turnerheim in Oberwiesenthal) also called "country house" in 1919, one and a half-story building on a slight slope with very rustic (Cyclops natural stone masonry), plinth and The ground floor unites masonry, slated "mezzanine", plastered gable on the valley side and an irregular, slate-tiled tailcoat roof on a hipped base, which continues on the south side over the recessed winter garden, irregular wall-opening ratio. The colossal, arched entrance situation, which, with the retracted staircase leading to the front door, suggests a cave, is characteristic. The architectural background is the so-called country house style that emerged from Muthesius' “English House” (1903), together with the reform style, which meant a departure from historicizing facades and postulated material justice.

The variety of building materials used in the house (quarry stone, plaster, wood, slate) and the task of symmetries, for which the idiosyncratic roof shape primarily stands, are significant. The rustic style of the building also shows the influences of that particularly martial homeland style of the Erzgebirge Oberland, which should probably reflect the roughness of the weather and can be seen in some buildings in the region that were built between the world wars (for example the school and Turnerheim and Sachsenbaude in Oberwiesenthal), finds. The unconventional and safe design line between tradition and modernity gives the house, despite changes in the interior, architectural-historical significance and in the place (together with the official villa Fabrikstrasse 6 in Cranzahl) singularity.

This is followed by the social and historical significance of the local development, because the house also stands for the change in the appearance of the site to an industrial village after 1900, a development that brought civil servants and manufacturers into the formerly rural Sehmatal with civil servants and manufacturers.
