Spinning mill with factory buildings (from two construction phases), coach house, transformer house, stairs to the train station, administration building and weir in Zschopau | Spinnereistraße 212 (map) |
1st half of the 19th century | Most important industrial-historical complex in Zschopau, connected with the name of the Bodemer family of industrialists, impressive overall system, high-quality components, legibility of the development, mostly original preserved, weir according to Johann Georg Bodemer's own design, of importance in terms of building history, local history and technology history.
The former administration building of the Zschopauer spinning mill, built in 1938 as the last larger structure on the industrial site, is a cultural monument for reasons of architectural and local history. The Bodemer cotton spinning mill has been closely linked to the local, economic and social history of Zschopau for over 200 years, and has historically shaped the place. Not only the production facilities in the floodplain itself, but also related factory settlements, dam walls and other technical monuments are monuments that cannot be separated from Zschopau. Against this background, the building in question is also indispensably involved. Its architectural significance is also due to the fact that it has the shapes and materials typical of the time it was built. It is kept in the Heimat style characteristic of the 1930s, which is expressed by segmental arched openings (also on the interior doors), the rough plaster, the deep structure and the steeply sloping gable roof with small standing dormers. Unfortunately, the characteristic wooden shutters have been lost. It is also interesting that the air raid shelter under the terrace, which was mandatory from the late 1930s, is still there. The building itself also has a steel frame construction in parts. The extensive porphyry walls and the building decorations (keystone) also show the amount of work involved in building it. The conservative, yes, folk architecture is nonetheless well thought out, which is also expressed in the small-scale window rungs (a legacy of the 1920s) and in the balanced wall-opening ratio that structures the large building. The documentation value necessary for the public interest in preservation (monument worthiness) is still given to a large extent for the house, with the exception of the shutters mentioned, almost all construction-time details are still present. The first floor windows from the 1990s are divided in the original sense. Another exemplary value is that it is one of the comparatively rare structures that can still demonstrate the original building stock of the 1930s - including the air raid shelter - to posterity. In addition, it is the only building from the late 19th century that is still in good condition from the Bodemer buildings. Johann Jacob Bodemer had been running an English goods store in Leipzig since 1787, bought a calico factory in Grossenhain in 1790, required a shop for calico and a bleaching shop and founded by Bodemer in Zschopau in 1802, initially working according to the publishing system: handing out the yarns at home, the calico supplied bleached and further processed , 1802–1805 New mansion with coach house, from 1819 first Bodemersche cotton spinning mill after the bleaching in Zschopau was broken up, later the cotton weaving mill was abandoned, concentration on spinning “Georg Bodemer” operating, constant modernization of the machines produced the finest webs of national recognition, great social commitment: Bodemer: 1845–78 factory school, from 1846 introduction of the 13-hour day, from 1851 factory savings and health insurance, through the pension fund establishment, from 1920 construction of two factory settlements “Grüne Aue”, “Blumengasse” with 160 company apartments, numerous technical inventions through Johann Georg Bodemer, 1897/1921 new spinning mill with extension, 1911 new turbine house (both architects Händel & Franke, Leipzig), from 1913 "Zschopauer cotton spinning AG" operating as a family company, during the First World War unlimited production, sometimes up to 4,000 employees, Acquisition of further factories such as Teichmannsche Fabrik, Zschopau, (1927), cotton spinning mill Gelenau AG (until 1933), 1919 new branch in Göppersdorf, economic problems from 1932 to 1945, 1938 new administration building (architects Metzler & Richter, Zschopau) from 1952 VEB, 1990 Closure, settlement.
