Martinsmünster A basilica already stood here in Ottonian times, which was destroyed in a fire in 1106 and rebuilt. But in the 13th century this building became too small for the up-and-coming city. The Bishop of Basel founded a monastery and had a church built between 1250 and 1375. The nave is divided into six bays. This is followed by a wide transept and a choir with a three-sided end. A mighty tower sits on the long side. Buttresses with eyelashes define the exterior of the church. Gothic tracery adorns the building. In the south sits a massive bell tower. Statue of Admiral Bruat Armand Joseph Bruat reached the peak of his career in 1854 during the Crimean War as commander of the French fleet in the Black Sea. In 1864, Frédéric-Auguste Bartholdi created a monument to Bruat for a fountain on the Colmar Field of Mars. The fountain was destroyed by the National Socialists in 1940. After the Bruats statue was restored in 1958, it was placed on top of a new fountain designed by the sculptor Gérard Choain and the architect Porte. It shows the admiral in a thoughtful pose.

synagogue The synagogue was built between 1839 and 1842 in the classical style. The long building is entered via the gable side. There is a central projection with a triangular gable. Sandstone ornaments loosen up the facade. The sandstone portal is formed by two fluted pilasters that support an entablature with an inscription and a cantilevered straight roof.

Temple of the Masonic Lodge The temple of the Masonic Lodge was built at the end of the 19th century from a personal donation from Wilhelm II. The most striking element of the street facade of the three-story plastered building is a porch on the ground floor, which becomes a Söller on the second floor. You enter this via a French door that is coupled with other windows via an enormous arched window. Above it sits a dwelling with Masonic symbols. A polygonal corner tower sits on the northeast side. Half-timbering extends over the upper floor on the south and east sides.
