List of living and labor camps in the Salzgitter area

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of residential and labor camps in the Salzgitter area includes residential camps that were set up between 1938 and 1945 to accommodate workers for the construction of the Hermann-Göring-Werke and the Hermann-Göring-Stadt , today's Salzgitter . The camps were initially inhabited by the RAD , civilian German workers and later by contract workers from the occupied territories of Europe, forced laborers , prisoners of war and concentration camp inmates . After the end of the Second World War, they were used temporarily to accommodate displaced persons , German prisoners of war, and then as accommodation for displaced persons and the homeless. Some of the camps were converted into real apartments or housing estates.
