List of historical forts and tattoos of Gambia
Two types of fortresses are listed in this list of historic forts and tattoos of Gambia . First the forts , the European colonial powers , which have been described in connection with a fort or a military base. The second part lists the tattoos that were erected by the local population during armed conflicts in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Geographically, the current area of the West African state of Gambia is meant.

The list only includes fortresses that have been described in connection with fort or military bases. Mere factories and trading stations are not dealt with here. The list is sorted approximately chronologically.
