List of churches in Saint Petersburg
This article contains sacred buildings of Saint Petersburg and its surroundings - sorted according to denomination (Russian-Orthodox, Catholic, Evangelical-Lutheran), according to size / importance (cathedrals, parish churches, chapels), according to location (generally in the city / in cemeteries or in monasteries) as well as synagogues and mosques.
In 1917 around 700 churches were counted, around 1990 there were around 140, in the years after 1990 numerous new buildings were added or were rebuilt according to old plans.
