The Lochmattbächli is a 380 meter long left tributary of the Lunnerenbach in the municipality of Birmensdorf in the canton of Zurich . It drains a heavily forested area in the central part of the Holzbirrliberg hill range.
The stream used to be called Stiefelbächli and flowed through the forest area, which was then called Lohholz , later called Looholz . It originated from a reed that is now drained and used for agriculture. Today it drains the loam to clay subsoil of the area affected by backwater .

The Lochmattbächli rises at 592 m above sea level. M. in the forest area Oberwiler Gruehalden directly at a field protruding into the forest around 60 meters east of the canton border with Aargau . The stream flows to the northeast and after 60 meters passes under an unnamed forest path. After another 130 meters, it reaches the edge of the Gruenhaldentobel . The Lochmattbächli, which only had to overcome a few meters in altitude, now plunges slightly deeper into the ravine, crossing under two more forest paths.
Here the stream reaches the eponymous clearing island Lochmatt , where it finally reaches 532 m above sea level. M. coming from the left and west-southwest, flows into the upper reaches of the Lunnerenbach.

The entire lower reaches of the stream from the crash into the ravine part of the protected area slope vineyard in Gruehaldentobel which dry grasslands and wetlands with litter meadows , sedge , Hochstaudenfluren and forests on waterlogged comprises floors. A small area at the mouth is also registered as a slope in the Grüehaldentobel in the nature and landscape protection inventory . flora
In the upper reaches of the first 140 meters, the Lochmattbächli woodruff - beech forest with lungwort and forest ziest flows through , followed by the typical maple - ash forest for around 100 meters . Typical lungwort-beech forest follows and at the mouth again typical maple-ash forest. The forests adjacent to the Lochmattbächli are all privately owned and are located in the Limmattal-Süd forest district . According to the forest development plan of the Canton of Zurich from 2010, the upper course is intended for wood production, while in the lower course in the forest locations of natural historical importance, the focus is primarily on biological diversity.
On the lower reaches of the stream, dense blackthorn stocks grow as well as stendelwurzen , mosquito-handelwort , orchid , horsetail , waterdost , yellow loosestrife , common loosestrife and heart leaves . A frequently occurring neophyte in the stream is the glandular balsam .
fauna
The bird species gray wagtail and goldhammer occur at the mouth .
