The Lomas district is located in the Caravelí province in the Arequipa region in southwestern Peru . The district was established on October 22, 1935. It has an area of 1588.41 km². The 2017 census counted 1477 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 821, in 2007 it was 1183. The district administration is based in the small town of Lomas with 1402 inhabitants located on a headland on the Pacific coast (as of 2017). The Punta Lomas National Reserve is located there. Playa Mansa de Lomas is located west of Lomas, and Playa Brava de Lomas to the east.
Geographical location
The Lomas district is located in the far west of the Caravelí province. It has an approximately 33 km long coastline on the Pacific Ocean and extends about 37 km inland. The area consists entirely of desert. The national road 1S ( Panamericana ) runs not far from the eastern district border coming from the northwest. A branch leads to Lomas.
The Lomas district borders on the Marcona district ( Nazca province ) to the west and the Bella Unión district to the east .
