Surname

In November 2014, London Road Stadium was sponsored ABAX Stadium after a Norwegian fleet management and vehicle tracking company that paid £ 500,000 for the five-year contract . At the beginning of June 2019, a new contract was signed with a company. Home builder Weston Homes Plc signed a ten-year contract with the club for £ 2 million. The renaming to Weston Homes Stadium took effect on June 1, 2019. Weston Homes is currently building over 350 apartments adjacent to the stadium.

history

Construction started in 1913 and was completed in the same year. After the venue was used by Peterborough & Fletton United from its founding in 1923 until it was dissolved in 1932 , the new football club Peterborough United leased the facility from the city in 1934. At that time the venue consisted of a wooden grandstand with 250 seats and earth walls behind the gates.

Behind the gates are Weston Homes London Road Terrace and the Motorpoint Stand . The South Stand was built in the mid-1990s for £ 1.4m. There have been few changes to the two tiers behind the gates since the 1950s until they were reconsidered in the 1990s and added breakwaters for safety . The North Stand was redesigned following Peterborough United's promotion to the Football League First Division in 1992. The grandstand was filled with seats because, according to the Taylor Report , the stadium had too few seats for the First Division.

In January 2010 Peterborough City Council bought the stadium from the club for £ 8 million. In September 2012, Peterborough United and the city agreed on a renovation or expansion of London Road . The city approved the expansion of the venue to 19,000 seats. In addition, the city of Peterborough is responsible for the lost viewing income during the renovation. The construction work should start at the end of 2012 and be completed at the beginning of the 2013/14 season.

The old Moyes End Terrace in May 2011

In August 2013, Peterborough City Council approved plans to rebuild the old Moyes End Terrace . The city and the club negotiated a new lease for 25 years. Rent fell from £ 500,000 to £ 300,000 per year but increased back to £ 380,000 with the completion of the new tier at Moyes End. The rental price rose by a further £ 50,000 when a second new grandstand (London Road Terrace to the seating only) became available. In mid-October 2013, the contracts for the construction of a new grandstand were signed by the city and the club. The £ 5 million project includes the construction of a new grandstand and a STEM education center.

At the beginning of December 2013 the construction machinery arrived and tore down Moyes End . The construction proceeded according to plan and on March 20, 2014 the first steel girder was installed. The assembly of the grandstand seats began in September 2014. White seats were installed next to blue plastic seats. They represent the founding year of Peterborough United, 1934. The club set the opening on November 22, 2014 with the game against Swindon Town . The new seating area offers just over 2,600 seats and is sponsored by the Motorpoint Stand .

Average attendance and visitor record

The attendance record was set on February 20, 1965 in the FA Cup game Peterborough United against Swansea City . The game of the 5th round was followed by 30,096 visitors.
