The Spotland Stadium is a rugby and soccer stadium in the English city of Rochdale , Metropolitan County Greater Manchester . The stadium's main users are Rochdale AFC football club and Rochdale Hornets rugby club .
history
The sports facility was built in 1920 for Rochdale AFC. At that time it only had one grandstand. Since 1988 it has been owned by the Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale ; the Rochdale Hornets and Rochdale AFC. From the beginning of the 1990s until the 2000/01 season, the entire stadium was renovated, according to the Taylor Report . In summer 2006 the field got a new drainage system ; after game cancellations and postponements in the previous winter. Today the facility has a capacity of 10,249 seats.
Grandstands
- The co-operative grandstand (main grandstand) has a seat for 1,774 fans. There are 12 VIP boxes on it. There are around 72 places available for the disabled and their helpers. Visually impaired visitors are offered the service of a commentator via headphones. The press stand has 30 seats for journalists .
- The Westrose Leisure grandstand (opposite grandstand) with 3,644 seats is the last converted spectator area; which was completed in the 2000/01 season. The guest fans find their place here.
- The TDS grandstand (back gate) with 2,584 seats is the audience rank of the home fans and was officially inaugurated by the former soccer player Nat Lofthouse in September 1997.
- The Thwaites Beer grandstand (back gate) is the only standing room in the stadium. It offers 1,898 standing places.
