The New Meadow , also known as Greenhous Meadow (by sponsorship agreement Montgomery Waters Meadow ) , is a football stadium in the English city of Shrewsbury . It is the club's own home ground of Shrewsbury Town football club and is classified as a UEFA Category 4 stadium . The 9,875-site facility is located between the Meole Brace and Sutton Farm districts in Shrewsbury. The construction of the venue replaced the Shrews' previous home stadium, Gay Meadow .

history

The stadium was completed in the summer of 2007 so it was ready in time for the 2007/08 season and the contractor was Hall Construction . The stadium's name was originally considered a temporary name during construction and should be changed after completion. This did not happen, however, and the stadium became known as "New Meadow" and "Oteley Road Stadium" during the first year in use. After that, the venue was officially named "Greenhous Meadow" according to surveys by Shrewsbury fans.

In mid-July 2017, the mineral water manufacturer Montgomery Waters acquired the naming rights to the stadium. The venue will officially be named Montgomery Waters Meadow for two years .

Visitor record and average attendance

The highest number of spectators with 10,210 visitors attracted the game Shrewsbury Town against Chelsea FC in the fourth round of the League Cup 2014/15 on October 28, 2014 in New Meadow. The number above the stadium capacity was achieved by adding additional stands with seats. The record in the old Gay Meadow was set on April 26, 1961 in the game of the Football League Third Division between Shrewsbury Town and FC Walsall with 18,917 visitors.
