The circle Longzhou ( Chinese  龙州县 , Pinyin Longzhou Xiàn ; Zhuang Lungzcouh Yen ) is a district of the prefecture-level city Chongzuo in the autonomous region of Guangxi Zhuang in the People's Republic of China . It has an area of ​​2,317.8 square kilometers and had 266,400 inhabitants at the end of 2015 (2011).

Longzhou is located in the southwest of Guangxi on the upper reaches of the Zuo Jiang River and on the border with Vietnam ( Cao Bằng Province ). The provincial capital Nanning is about 200 kilometers away. It lies at the transition between the karst landscape of western Guangxi and the hill country of southern Guangxi, the relief of Longzhou is shaped by karst and slopes from north to south. On average, Lonzhou is at an altitude of 200 meters, the highest point is the Daqing Shan at 1046 meters. The most important rivers are the Shuikou He , the Heishui He and the Ming Jiang .

Longzhou has a subtropical climate with mild temperatures all year round, sufficient rain and sunlight. The winters are mild, the summers are warm with lots of rain, and the autumns are warm. There are 350 frost-free days per year. Extreme weather such as floods, drought, hail or freezing rain pose dangers for local agriculture. The natural vegetation is dense and diverse.

Longzhou is the location of the Nonggang Conservation Area , which was proclaimed by the central government. It has a territory of over 1000 hectares and is home to 1282 plant and 620 animal species.

Longzhou had a population of around 270,000 in 2011. The 2000 population census showed a total population of 255,790 people in 64,546 households, of whom 132,656 were men and 123,134 were women. About 95% of the population belong to the national minority of Zhuang on, the rest is accounted for by Han , Yao , Miao , Hui and Dong .

history

Longzhou was founded in 221 BC. Founded in BC and since then has been located at the southern gateway of China towards Indochina. Longzhou District was established in the Tang Dynasty .

In 1885 France attacked China from Indochina , with the bandit and folk hero Feng Zicai excelling in repelling the attack in Zhennanguan . A short time later, France set up a consulate in Longzhou, and in 1887 Longzhou became a border post. From 1891, the governor of Guangxi Sun Yuanchun had fortifications built. Between 1913 and 1961, the county was called Lijiang (丽江 县) or Longjin (龙津 县).

In February 1930, the Longzhou Uprising occurred under Li Mingrui and Yu Zuoyu , after which the 8th Corps of the Chinese Workers 'and Peasants' Army was established. It was temporarily commanded by Deng Xiaoping , whom the Communist Party headquarters had sent to Guangxi to create a base region. Deng had planned to capture the French customs post and use the profits from this post to finance his army. The uprising, in the course of which all property was confiscated and redistributed, led to violence and looting, and at the end of the month French planes bombarded the city with poison gas. However, the army was later wiped out in fighting with the forces of the Guangxi clique warlords .

Before the big leap forward , Longzhou was divided into 13 people's communes, which were reorganized into 82 smaller communes in 1962. This was abolished in 1984 and essentially replaced by the current administrative structure.

Economy and Transport

Longzhou has deposits of marble , alumina , copper and iron ore , diamonds, phosphorus and manganese .

There are tea , star anise , Longyan , jackfruit , banana for, vegetables and herbs traditional Chinese medicine grown.

Longzhou is on the highway between Nanning and the border with Vietnam near Shuikou .

Culture

The building of the French consulate and the headquarters of the 8th Workers 'and Peasants' Army are a reminder of the eventful recent history of Longzhou. Apart from that, nature offers attractions such as the Zixia Cave, the karst landscapes on the rivers of the district, the Xiangshui waterfall or the biodiversity of the Nonggan nature reserve. Architectural monuments like the Wenchang Pavilion, Wenbi Pagoda or Leshou Pavilion attract visitors, as does the culture of the Zhuang people.
