Lothar Zinn
Lothar tin (* 19th March 1938 in Erfurt ; † 29. February 1980 in Berlin ) was a GDR - Chess Master and International Master . Zinn was a member of the GDR national team in chess.
Life
Zinn grew up in Erfurt in a family with a chess tradition. His grandfather and father already had exceptional skill levels. So it was not surprising that he could play chess before he even started school. After graduating from high school, he learned the trade of toolmaker . This was followed by studies at the Technical University of Dresden . As a graduate engineer , he then worked in data processing . He moved to Berlin around 1960 . The most important tournament successes followed, whereby he had previously distinguished himself at pioneer and youth championships.
In 1980 Zinn died after a serious illness shortly before the age of 42.
He was married to Anita Zinn, fourth in the 1st Correspondence Chess World Championship for women, which Olga Rubzowa won.
successes
At the age of 14, Zinn achieved his first major success in 1952. He won - without giving up a single point - the pioneer championship of the GDR . In 1961 in Premnitz he caused a sensation at the GDR championship when he won the title in front of the big favorite Wolfgang Uhlmann . In 1965 in Annaberg-Buchholz he was able to repeat this success. At that time he was already living in Berlin , where he won the city championship several times, most recently in 1979. In 1965 Lothar Zinn was awarded the title of " International Master " by FIDE . His last Elo rating was 2325, in July 1973 he reached his highest rating of 2435.
Tournaments
In 1962 , 1966 , 1968 and 1970 Zinn was a member of the GDR team at the Chess Olympiad . In 1970 he won the bronze medal at the 4th European Team Championships in Kapfenberg with the GDR team in both the team and individual competitions on the sixth board . His international results stand out: 5th place at the Halle zonal tournament in 1967 (behind Portisch , Hort , Matulović and Uhlmann ) and 3rd place shared with GM Matanović and Ivkov in Maribor in the same year (behind Unzicker and Reshevsky ).
societies
Zinn first played at BSG Optima Erfurt , then at SC Chemie Halle , with whom he was GDR team champion in 1956 . He won his next GDR championship title in 1962 for SC Einheit Dresden . After moving to Berlin , he became a member of TSC Berlin and was team champion with it in 1965 , 1966 and 1967 .
