from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

At the GDR team championship in chess in 1962 , SC Einheit Dresden won the GDR team championship for the third time after 1957 and 1958 .

A round-robin tournament was played , with each team fought four team matches on eight boards against each other, the so-called half-Scheveningen system . There were a total of 60 team fights, so 480 games. In the shortened Scheveningen system, the first four players on each team form the upper house and the second four form the lower house . In this way, each team is practically made up of two teams, but their results are considered as a whole.

Manfred Kahn

While the first half was played on weekends, the second half (ten rounds) took place centrally in Leipzig from May 7th to 13th, 1962. The six teams played in the Leipzig Sports Forum.

May 13th brought the decision. SC Einheit Dresden deservedly made it with the narrowest lead. He was more balanced on all boards and had two strong pillars in Hans Richter and Manfred Kahn in the lower house on which the third title win is based.
