At the GDR team championship in chess in 1950 , BSG KWU-Süd, Leipzig won the GDR team championship and was the first team champion in the GDR.

The championship in 1949 in Wernigerode was held as the last championship in the eastern zone .

The first team championships of the GDR opened in Binz on Rügen on September 23, 1950 . A youth championship and a men's championship took place. A round-robin tournament was played each time , with each team playing on ten boards. There were a total of five men's teams and six youth teams.

Best individual results

The best result on board 1 of the youth teams was achieved by Rüdiger Mainz (Mühlhausen) with 3.5 points from 5 games. In the men's race, Trampenau (Schwerin) was best on the first board with 3.5 out of 4. Pötschmann on board 6 was the only player to get 100 percent with 4 out of 4.
