At the GDR team championship in chess in 1991 , SV Erfurt-West 90 won the GDR team championship .

A round-robin tournament was played , with each team playing two team fights on eight boards against each other. There were a total of 56 team fights, so 448 games. The top three qualified for the 1st Bundesliga 1991/92 , the other teams played in the 2nd Bundesliga in the 1991/92 season .
