GDR team championship in chess 1963

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

At the GDR team championship in chess in 1963 , TSC Berlin took back the title and won the GDR team championship for the fourth time.

A round-robin tournament was played , with each team fought four team matches on eight boards against each other, the so-called half-Scheveningen system . There were a total of 60 team fights, so 480 games. In the shortened Scheveningen system, the first four players on each team form the upper house and the second four form the lower house . In this way, each team is practically made up of two teams, but their results are considered as a whole. While the first half was played on weekends, the second half (ten rounds) took place centrally in Berlin from May 5 to 12, 1963 in the Werner-Seelenbinder-Halle.

After the first half, Berlin I had led with 51.5 points ahead of SC Einheit Dresden (48 points) and was able to save this lead to the finish.
