GDR team championship in chess 1951

At the GDR team championship in chess in 1951 , BSG Einheit-Ost-Leipzig won the GDR team championship and thus became the GDR's second team champion.

The championship in 1949 in Wernigerode was the last championship in the eastern zone . The GDR's first team championships took place in Binz on Rügen in September 1950 . A youth championship and a men's championship were held.

The final fights of the second GDR team championships took place in Potsdam in autumn 1951 . More than 20,000 chess athletes took part in the preliminary matches. The two finals (youth and men's teams ) were each held as round-robin tournaments, with each team playing on ten boards. There were a total of six teams for the men and six for the youth.

Best individual results

On the men's first board, Wolfgang Pietzsch (Leipzig) and Hans Platz (Magdeburg) each got 4 points from 5 games. Mühlberg (Magdeburg) had the best result of all men with 5 out of 5.

In the youth category , Burkhard Malich (Staßfurt) was the best on the first board with 4 out of 5. Fritz Baumbach from Berlin achieved the best result of all young people with 5 out of 5.
