Louis de Crevant, duc d'Humières - also occasionally spelled Louis de Crévant, duc d'Humières with accent aigu - (* 1628 ; † 30 August 1694 ) was a Maréchal de France and governor of Compiègne , Lille des Bourbonnais and others conquered Tracts of land.

He was one of nine children of Louis III. de Crevant, seigneur d'Argy, then marquis d'Humières (1606–1648), governor of Compiègne and Isabelle Phélippeaux (1611–1642), from the family Phélippeaux d'Herbault, daughter of Raymond Phélipeaux d'Herbault. His younger brother Raymond-Louis de Crevant entered the royal navy and was later appointed lieutenant général des armées navales .

After his father, Louis, seigneur d'Argy, marquis d'Humières resigned from this post, Louis de Crévant was appointed governor of Compiègne by King Louis XIV on June 11, 1646 .

His wife, Louise Antoinette de la Châtre, was an influential lady-in-waiting to the Queen. The access he gained to François-Michel Le Tellier, marquis de Louvois, was of great importance for his career.

Military career

On September 4, 1650, he was promoted to the Maréchal de camp .

In 1653 and 1654 he served in the siege and capture of Mouzon and Sainte-Menehould , the relief of Arras and the capture of Quesnoy . The following year took part in Landrecies , Condé , Saint-Guillain , Hombourg, Bitche , Courtrai , La Capelle and was involved in the Battle of Cassel . Appointed Lieutenant General in 1656 , he was then involved in the Battle of the Dunes . In the same year he stood at the capture of Dunkirk, Bergues , Veurne and Diksmuide , Oudenarde and Ypres , of which he became governor.

In the Dutch War he was involved in the capture of Tournai , Douai and Lille from 1667 . In 1668, after the Treaty of Aachen , he became Governor General of the County of Flanders with his seat in Lille, of which he was also governor. The following year he was appointed Marshal of France.

In 1672 he was suspended because he, along with the marshals Bellefonds and Créquy had refused from which to captain général appointed de Maréchal Turenne to take orders. He was only rehabilitated after he had submitted to the will of the king.

In 1676 he moved his seat to Condé, but also often resided in Aire and in Fort de Linck.

After the Treaty of the Pyrenees , d'Humières was appointed lieutenant du roi in Picardy and, in 1685, grand master of the artillery of France . In 1688 he was awarded the Ordre du Saint-Esprit and the Ordre de Saint-Michel .

In the battle of Walcourt he had to admit defeat to Georg Friedrich von Waldeck . He could not hold his positions in the Spanish Netherlands and then had to retire.

Despite this failure, his Monchy-Humières lands in Picardy were elevated to a duchy with a patent from August 1690 . The title then passed to the husband of his third daughter Anne-Louise-Julie.

In 1692 he commanded the army on the Lys and was involved in the siege of Namur .

He died in Versailles on August 30, 1694 .

In 1653 he married Louise Antoinette Thérèse de la Châtre, lady-in-waiting to the Queen, daughter of Edme de la Châtre, comte de Nançay, and Françoise de Cugnac-Dampierre. They had the following offspring:
