Louis Friedrich Wilhelm Stanislaus Count von Dönhoff (born January 13, 1799 in Potsdam , † September 6, 1877 at Friedrichstein Palace ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

family

Louis was a member of the Prussian tribe of noble family of Dönhoff . He was a son of August von Dönhoff (1763-1838), Landhofmeister of the Kingdom of Prussia , and his wife Pauline Luise Amalie, née Countess von Lehndorff (1771-1813). He remained unmarried and without offspring.

Military career

His military career began in May 1815 Dönhoff Dragoons in the 4th Dragoon Regiment of the Prussian army , where he in the same year Portepeefähnrich was. In 1816 he was promoted to second lieutenant . On February 27, 1819, he was transferred to the Guard Landwehr Cavalry Regiment and on January 27, 1820 to the Regiment of the Gardes du Corps . As Prime Lieutenant , Dönhoff was the military companion of Duke Albrecht von Mecklenburg-Schwerin from mid-December 1828. In 1831 he became captain and company commander in the Gardes du Corps regiment. In 1841 Dönhoff was promoted to major and in 1844 was promoted to regular staff officer . After he had been briefly entrusted with the leadership of the Guard Hussar Regiment from April 27 to May 6, 1848 , he was then appointed regimental commander. In the same capacity, Dönhoff was active in the regiment of the Gardes du Corps from December 14, 1848. In this position he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and colonel on November 19, 1849 and September 22, 1851 . On April 25, 1854, Dönhoff became the commander of the 1st Cavalry Brigade and since May 5 of that year has been à la suite of the Gardes du Corps. In July 1855 he was promoted to major general . During the mobilization on the occasion of the German War in 1866, Dönhoff was reactivated and used as commander of the deputy 1st Infantry Brigade . On January 3, 1867, the king gave him the character of lieutenant general.

In 1850 he was a member of the Volkshaus of the Erfurt Union Parliament .

Dönhoff was a legal knight of the Order of St. John . He died on his family's Friedrichstein estate in East Prussia .
