Luciano Spinosi (born May 9, 1950 in Rome ) is a former Italian football player and today's coach .

During his playing career Spinosi was a defender . Most recently he worked as a coaching assistant at AS Livorno .

Player career

In the club

Luciano Spinosi started his career at Tevere Roma , where he played in Serie D for two years . In 1967 he moved to AS Roma . He made his debut for Roma on May 12, 1968 in the Serie A match against AC Turin .

For the 1970/71 season Luciano Spinosi moved to Juventus Turin , where he was a regular for four years and was under contract until 1978. For Juve , he completed a total of 241 games, scoring four goals and was five Italian championships and in 1977 the UEFA Cup win.

In 1978 Spinosi went back to AS Roma, where he spent the following four seasons. During this time he won the Coppa Italia twice with Roma . For the 1982/83 season he moved to Hellas Verona , where he stayed for only one year. After that Spinosi moved to AC Milan in the 1984/85 season he finally ended his active career at AC Cesena in Serie B .

In the national team

After three U-21 internationals between 1969 and 1971, Luciano Spinosi was appointed to the Italian national football team. He made his debut on June 9, 1971 in a 0-0 draw against Sweden . In the following years he was a regular in the Azzurri and was also in the 1974 FIFA World Cup in Germany in the squad of Italy . The Azzurri were eliminated in the preliminary round. After that, Luciano Spinosi was never called up to the national team again, so the last group game of the World Cup against Poland , which they lost 2-1, was his last international match - at the age of only 24 years. Spinosi made a total of 19 international matches for Italy and scored one goal.

Coaching career

Immediately after the end of his professional career, Luciano Spinosi began his coaching career in the youth department of AS Roma. In the following year he coached the Primavera , the team of the highest age in Italian youth football. After he was able to celebrate some successes with the team (they won the championship , the Torneo di Viareggio and the Coppa Italia ) and had introduced many youth players, including Francesco Totti , to the professional squad, Spinosi made his first appearance in the US Lecce in Serie B. Hire as head coach. He then worked at Ternana Calcio in the C1 series .

1996 Luciano Spinosi was assistant coach of Sven-Goran Eriksson at Sampdoria . In the following year he moved with the Swede to Lazio Rome , where he was again assistant coach until 2004, first under Eriksson, and later under Dino Zoff , Alberto Zaccheroni and Roberto Mancini . With the capital city club Spinosi won the Scudetto in 1999/2000 , three times the Coppa Italia , in 1999 the European Cup Winners' Cup , the Italian Supercup and the European Supercup .

Since March 2007 Spinosi has been working as Fernando Orsi's assistant coach at AS Livorno .
