Lucid Dreams (Forget Me) , or just Lucid Dreams , is a song by the US rapper and singer Juice Wrld from 2017. It first appeared on his mixtape Juice WRLD 999 , but later also on his commercial debut album Goodbye & Good Riddance , from which it was the second single. The song was written by the artist together with Dominic Miller , Nick Mira , Danny Lee Sondgras Jr. ( Taz Taylor ) and Gorden Sumner ( Sting ), and produced by Mira.

Music and lyrics

In Lucid Dreams (Forget Me) is a Trapsong with bonds of the picture genre. A catchy, but melancholy guitar melody backed the Beat , the deep the music style accordingly, dominant 808 - bass drums , hi-hats and claps there. Juice Wrld can be heard singing the entire song, whereby his voice is alienated throughout with autotune . In some places other effects, such as phasers or reverse reverb, are used . In terms of content, the piece of music revolves around a separation between two people, which the first-person narrator has still not processed. He still feels the presence of his former partner and at the same time feels love and hate for her. He realizes that he should go ahead and meet other people, but fails to do so because he thought they were "the one". His mind and emotions are in conflict here. Juice Wrld uses particularly harsh language, comparing the end of the relationship with death, and claims to be taking prescription medication to feel good again. He also suffers from lucid dreams in which he cannot move.

Sample and reception of the original artist

Lucid Dreams (Forget Me) is based on a guitar riff that was taken from the song Shape of My Heart by the British singer-songwriter Sting , but re-recorded. The original performer himself called Juice Wrld's song a beautiful rendition of his song, while co-writer and guitarist Dominic Miller , who recorded the tune in 1993, described the title as the most intelligent use of his previously sampled melody, and praised the lyrics as everyone liked it identify with the topic.

Despite the positive feedback, there was a dispute between the two parties due to the royalties . Sting would have claimed 85% of this for himself and threatened to take the case to court, according to an angry Twitter post by producer Nick Mira, who spoke out about the English musician. Juice Wrld, however, saw the situation more calmly and said that his song had a positive effect on many people, which was more important than money, which he could earn elsewhere.

Music video

The video clip for Lucid Dreams (Forget Me) , which was directed by Cole Bennett , is surreal and uses a variety of unconventional visual effects. Among other things, he shows the artist how he sticks his head through a hole in the floor from below so that it is on the floor above him. In other shots, he is standing in a closeup in front of a wall, with the shadow of a roller blind clearly emerging on his face , through which the rapper is also looking during the course of the video; in still others he is on a staircase that leads to a glistening, yellow light source. In between, a woman is shown who appears to be the one that Juice Wrld sang about. Fixed English subtitles can be seen at selected points . In the middle of the video there is a longer sequence that seems to be without editing. First, Juice Wrld's face is transformed into a skull , before the camera zooms through a circular hole in the background. The word "Dead" is faded in in red before a dark house facade , through the window of which you can see that the interior is on fire, is shown. Its door opens and the head of the interpreter becomes visible behind it. Then it closes again and the camera moves back, whereupon two red colored hands come into the picture from left and right . After several flashes, another hole is faded in, from which the musician immediately sticks his head out, which ends the scene and continues as at the beginning of the clip. In the last third, hands come out of the edge of the picture two more times: once they try in vain to reach a wedding ring in the middle , in the last few seconds of the video they want to grab each other in front of an idyllic sky, which they succeed, whereupon a Heart appears. Suddenly the screen turns red, the heart breaks and the hands snap apart.
