Ludwig Bassermann , from 1883 Bassermann-Jordan (* December 24, 1869 in Deidesheim , † August 11, 1914 near Mulhouse ) was a German wine specialist. He was instrumental in the founding of the Association of German Prädikats- und Qualitätweingüter e. V. (VDP) and the new version of the Wine Act 1909. Bassermann-Jordan was the mayor of his hometown Deidesheim and ran a winery here .

family

He came from the wealthy Palatine family Bassermann , which can be traced back to Brother Johannes Bassermann de Radegishusen ( Riddagshausen monastery near Braunschweig ) and whose direct line of lineage began with Dietrich Bassermann (1615-1682) in Hanau . He was the son of the winery owner and district administrator Emil Bassermann (1835–1915, from 1883 Bassermann-Jordan) and Auguste Jordan (1841–1899); his brothers were Friedrich von Bassermann-Jordan and Ernst von Bassermann-Jordan .

His marriage to his cousin Marie Bassermann († 1910), whom he married in 1902, remained childless.

His maternal grandfather, Ludwig Andreas Jordan , had no male heir who would carry his name on. After he died in 1883, the Bavarian King Ludwig II followed his wish and gave permission for the name association as "Bassermann-Jordan" on September 17, 1883 at Linderhof Palace .

The redesign of the council hall in the historic Deidesheim town hall (1912) to its present form was done on his initiative.
